Celene Humphries Moderates Panel on 2000 Presidential Election Litigation

Twenty years after the infamous series of cases that came to be known as Bush v. Gore, Brannock Humphries & Berman shareholder Celene Humphries moderated a panel with several key players from the litigation, including former Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince.

The event was presented by Celene’s pupillage group with the J. Clifford Cheatwood American Inn of Court, led by Judge Julie Sneed of the Middle District of Florida.  The featured speakers included Craig Latimer, the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, along with members of George W. Bush’s and Al Gore’s legal teams.  Mr. Latimer kicked things off by providing an overview of the vote counting process to help set the scene and give practical context for the Bush v. Gore dispute.

The remainder of the event was dedicated to a panel discussion with Justice Quince, who served on the Supreme Court during the 2000 presidential election contest; Barry Richard, who represented former President Bush; and Mitchell Berger, who represented former Vice President Gore.  Celene served as the co-moderator for the discussion, asking the panelists to share their memories, insights, and lessons learned from the historic litigation.
